Money in Vietnam: exchange, ATMs, cards and QR payments

• Cash above USD 5,000 (or equivalent) or VND 15 million must be declared at customs on entry and exit.
• Exchange at bank branches or authorised exchange points only; since 9 Feb 2026 exchanging USD 1,000+ at unauthorised places is fined VND 10–20 million.
• Foreign Visa/Mastercard cards work in most ATMs: typically VND 20–70K per withdrawal, 2–5M per transaction. Russian Mir cards work only at VRB ATMs.
• VietQR payments require a Vietnamese bank account; foreigners can open one in person with a passport, visa and biometric check.
